During Acer's Global press event at New York, the company unveiled Windows 7-based Iconia dual-screen laptop / tablet, we're not surprised at all knowing that it appears like to be a larger version of Toshiba Libretto W105. We got few more details with press release after the break.

According to Engadget's update, the device was "running Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit) and is equipped with an Intel Core i5-480M / 560M / 580M CPU, up to 4GB of DDR3 memory, a pair of 14-inch multitouch displays (1366x768 resolution), integrated Intel HD graphics (128MB RAM), VGA / HDMI outputs, an inbuilt microphone and a S/PDIF interface. Closing things out, there are a pair of USB 2.0 ports, a single USB 3.0 jack and a one-year warranty." Unfortunately, we haven't got a piece of the price for this touch-loving device.

Decide before buying Apple’s iPhone 4

The Nokia N8 vs. iPhone 4
Nokia’s newest mobile phone, the N8, is providing some stiff competition in the market forApple’s iPhone 4. Both phones are the pinnacle model of each mobile phone producer’s line. Comparing both phones on different aspects can perhaps provide some insight into which mobile phone might be better for some consumers than others.

The shape of the Nokia N8 has been streamlined in the new design. It comes with a touchscreen and is featured in a rainbow of colours including white, grey, blue, green and orange. Overall, the N8 weighs in at 135 grams and measures 12.9 mm thick. On the other hand, the iPhone 4 touts its thin profile in comparison to most other smartphones including the N8. However, the iPhone does come in a more limited range of colours; only black and white. The iPhone is slightly heavier weighing in at 137 grams with a thinner profile measuring online 9.3 mm thick.

Another feature to consider when comparing the N8 and iPhone 4 is the camera that is built in the phone. The Nokia N8’s camera takes photos with an unheard of resolution of 12 megapixels for a camera phone. This is much more than the iPhone 4’s 5 megapixel photos. Not to mention the N8’s camera also boasts a wide angle Carl Zeiss lens. Both phones do come with video editing software installed on the phone. This makes it easy to share both photos and video from both the N8 and iPhone 4.

Both phones feature touchscreen displays that measure 3.5 inches. The N8 comes with a high resolution screen that pleases many users. With its resolution of 640 by 360 pixels it is slightly less than the iPhone which has a resolution of 960 by 640 pixels. While numerically this appears to be perhaps a significant difference, some users argue that it doesn’t make a major impact on the appearance of images using the two phones. Steve Jobs has spoken frequently about the revolutionary Retina Display that comes with the iPhone. Some favour the iPhone for this reason but others again report the difference between the two phones doesn’t appear to be too significant.

Google Nexus S Review

Here's one gadget that many would probably want as a gift for the holidays. But with the myriad of Android-based smartphones and whatnot out there, how's Google's take on the handset would differ? Leaving the shores of HTC for Samsung, which in itself has made many Android gadgets (and probably a reason as to why they were selected as manufacturer), the Nexus One successor promises to continue where that iteration left off. And while there's a clear similarity between the Nexus S and Samsung's own Galaxy S, Google is taking a fresh approach on this and we'll see how it goes.

So let's start with the specifications for those not in the know. The Nexus S is powered by a Hummingbird CPU at 1 GHz, supported by 512 MB RAM. It's got a Super AMOLED display at 800 x 480 resolution, storage at 16 GB with a front VGA camera and a 5 megapixel rear view camera. Before we get to the Android component, let's look at the hardware first.

As said early on, there's a clear design derivative from the Galaxy S. It has this kind of curved aesthetic that makes the bottom half protrude more, thus having the screen in a concave fashion. This is most likely to make the phone hug the face contours. Other than that, the design is what you'd expect of a smartphone nowadays -- being minimalistic and all.

One peculiar hardware feature that the Nexus S has -- NFC -- is still untested as there's not much application of it at the moment. But Google has said that this will have three primary methods of use: read, write and exchange. Once the applications are there, we can definitely see how it fares with the use of NFC.

What's hardware without the software? So here's our treat for Android's latest upgrade -- 2.3 Gingerbread. As said in the initial Gingerbread look, there's not much you can expect from the aesthetics but all is happening behind the scenes.

Despite having said that, let's still take a look at what changed visually. For starters, there's definitely come cleanup happening here. Icons have changed from their cartoon looks to the more minimalistic almost monochromatic (with highlights of green) for consistency. There's also some transparency in the menus and interfaces, making it more "glassy".

A big update they had was their on-screen keyboard. Aside from the mandatory cleanup, they've updated the look and added new features to it. With refined multitouch capabilities, Take the punctuation key as example, you can simply tap the key and slide your finger on to the character you want. Although they forgot that upon lifting your finger, it doesn't return to the usual ABCs, nice concept but needs more refinement in the execution. As for the applications, there's not much added in Gingerbread. An important one, is the NFC app, which allows the tracking and management of the tags you've gathered.

Overall there's a lot of promise for Google's second take on the smartphone hype. For an in-depth review of this handset, the great people at Engadget have one online.
